Diesel Generator Set Brands for Remote Mining Operations: Why Mines Specify MPMC

Oct 30, 2026

When mining companies compare diesel generator set brands for remote operations, they are really choosing three things at once: the engine and alternator inside the set, the manufacturer that engineers and builds it, and the support that keeps it running far from the nearest town. MPMC brings all three together. Mines choose their preferred engine and alternator brands on MPMC's containerised platform, MPMC engineers the complete set for the site, and the global service networks of those brands support it in the field.

Engine and Alternator Brands on One Platform

Choose the Brands Your Region Supports Best

MPMC's containerised units can be built with Cummins, Perkins, MTU, Baudouin, Scania, SME, Volvo or SDEC engines, with Kubota and HD Hyundai Infracore also available across the range, and Stamford or Leroy-Somer alternators. This lets a mine standardise on the engine family its maintenance team and local dealers already know. MPMC has been the largest G-OEM by volume in China for Perkins and Stamford in recent years and ranks among the top three for DCEC and Kubota, giving it deep experience in configuring these brands.

Engineered by MPMC for Mine Conditions

Whatever the brand, MPMC engineers the set around the site: copper radiators for 50°C ambient, altitude derating calculated for each engine model, containerised enclosures with C3, C4 or C5 coating and NDT-inspected, pressure-tested chassis that stay sound through repeated relocation. Every unit is load-tested from 0% to 110% in MPMC's CNAS-accredited test centre before it ships.

Power quality stays tightly controlled, with steady-state frequency stability within ±0.25% and voltage regulation within ±1%, giving crushers, conveyors, pumps and ventilation fans a stable supply. Each set is configured with the controller the mine prefers, such as the DSE8610MKI used on MPMC's Philippine mining project.

Built for the Realities of Remote Operation

Simple Logistics and Fast Set-Up

Containerised units ship by sea in standard container formats and arrive with engine, alternator, controls, cooling and fuel system integrated and tested, ready for rapid deployment. Built-in tanks of 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours, plus bonded or external tank options, let operators align refuelling with their haul schedule.

The same container design protects engines and switchgear from dust, heat and rain once on site, and MPMC's containerised platform scales from single units to multi-megawatt stations as the mine expands.

Fewer Fuel Deliveries With HBD-R Battery Pairing

Remote mines gain most from reducing fuel trips and service visits. MPMC pairs its generator sets with HBD-R mobile battery storage, from 30 kW to 610 kW, so the generator runs at its efficient load point of around 75% while the battery absorbs load swings and motor-start surges. MPMC product data associates this pairing with fuel savings of up to 75%, and in a UK case the addition of HBD-R storage stretched refuelling from every 2 days to every 7 days and maintenance from every 10 days to every 60 days. In Chile, MPMC supplied a 500 kWh mobile storage plant built from HBD-50-100 and HBD-250-400 units for a mining operation.
