Yes, and by a large margin. A lighting tower powered directly by its diesel engine keeps its engine running throughout the night to power the lamps, while efficient LED lights draw a small share of the engine's output. A hybrid tower stores energy in a battery and runs its engine briefly and efficiently to recharge, so the lights stay on through the night while the engine stays off for most of the time. MPMC builds hybrid lighting towers on this principle, and has extended it to multi-tower systems in which one hybrid tower charges a group of all-electric towers.
The HBL-600D-M X-Matrix hybrid light tower pairs an 8 kWh LiFePO4 battery with a 6 kW Kubota Z482-3B diesel generator set. Its four 150 W LEDs at 200 lm/W light 18,200 m² at an average of 5 lux, and the tower runs for up to 53 hours on battery alone at full brightness. With a 130 L fuel tank, it reaches 420 hours of autonomy, so refuelling visits become rare.
For larger areas, the X-Matrix design lets this diesel-battery main tower work with battery-only HBL-600D-S sub towers, so one engine can serve several light positions.
Dual-mode colour temperature switching, adaptive brightness control and a light-controlled timer match the light output to what the site needs, further extending battery time. Its 9.0 m hydraulic mast rotates through 355° to place light precisely.
Because the generator set runs at an efficient output whenever it starts, the engine accumulates far fewer hours each season, which extends service intervals as well as cutting fuel.
MPMC HBL Series diesel-battery hybrid lighting tower. At the 140th Canton Fair in October 2026, MPMC presented a new hybrid lighting system built around the HBL-600D-M diesel-storage tower and the HBL-600D-S all-electric tower. In its one-to-six configuration, one diesel-storage master tower powers six all-electric towers. During the day the master tower's generator set runs for 10 hours and produces 60 kWh, fully charging all seven towers. At night the seven towers light continuously for 12 hours at a combined load of 4.2 kW, silently and with zero emissions. The system stores 56 kWh in total, covers up to 105,500 m² and leaves a daily surplus of 9.6 kWh as a reserve for unexpected power needs. The all-electric tower can also work on its own for projects with strict environmental requirements.
The arithmetic shows how much engine time the system removes: instead of seven engines running through the night, one engine runs for a planned daytime period and the night shift is covered entirely by stored energy.

HBL towers carry a 1-year or 1,000-hour warranty on the genset and a 2-year or 1,000-cycle warranty on the battery. For sites with strong daylight, MPMC's HSL solar towers offer a fuel-free alternative.
MPMC builds diesel-powered lighting towers at its Haimen factory alongside its hybrid and solar towers, so buyers can choose the right technology, or the right mix, for each project from one supplier.
• Measure the area to be lit and the hours of darkness
• Note noise rules and emissions targets on site
• Choose single hybrid towers or a one-to-six system
• Add HSL solar towers where daylight is strong
